An important notice I received from the League of Humane Voters:
On September 15, NYC voters will head to the polls to choose a new Public Advocate, Comptroller and Manhattan District Attorney. Voters will also decide whether or not to send incumbent Council Members back to office and who should fill empty seats.
In this election, the turnout will be very low and the animal protection community can have a huge impact. We can elect people to these offices who will work to make animals' lives better.
We can elect a Public Advocate - Bill de Blasio - who will advocate not only for people but for animals as well.
We can elect a Comptroller - David Yassky - who will follow in Bill Thompson's footsteps and blow the whistle on animal abusers.
We can elect a District Attorney in Manhattan - Leslie Crocker Snyder - who will have a no-nonsense approach to animal cruelty.
We can also remove from office a huge opponent of animal protection legislation, Christine Quinn, and replace her with an animal advocate: Yetta Kurland.
We can do these things, but we need your help! On September 15th, please, get out and vote. If you have any extra time in the next 14 days, we also need your help on the streets to get out the vote! Please click here to sign up as a volunteer.
This year's election is an incredible opportunity for animals. Let's make our vote a loud voice for dogs in shelters, carriage horses, humane education, elephants in the circus - for all animals. Together, we can win!
